Lynnfield, Massachusetts is a residential community within a short distance of Boston. First settled in 1638, the town was officially incorporated in 1842. In its early years the town was predominantly agricultural, though a few businesses thrived: two inns, a granite quarry, a carbonated beverage bottler and a few restaurants were among the early commercial and industrial establishments. By the mid-20th century, the construction of Route 1 precipitated a population boom in the region, and the town retains a large commuter population today.
Just 15 miles from New England's biggest city and commercial hub, Lynnfield has maintained its rural atmosphere with a historic downtown. The traditional town common is bordered by the Meeting House, built in 1714, and the Lynnfield Public Library, which dates from just before the Civil War. The town's public school system is among the state's best, boasting a rate of over eighty percent who attend college among graduates. Community residents have access to the town golf course, athletic fields, and parks for recreation.
